Shellac CAS 9000-59-3 Bleached Shellac Food Grade Shellac Granules

Refined bleached shellac, made from natural shellac resin secreted by lac insects on host plants, is produced using advanced modern technology with de-waxing and dechlorination processes. It is a natural, non-toxic, eco-friendly product in fine light lemon-colored granules, featuring strong adhesion, good plasticity, excellent electrical insulation, tensile strength, wear resistance, and resistance to water, rust, oil, and acid. It is mainly used in fruit preservation, cosmetics, confectionery coating, as well as in military, electrical, and paint industries. Compared with similar products, it offers lower chlorine content, longer thermal life, extended storage stability, and no adverse effects on human health, in line with the current green and environmental protection trends.

Usage Instructions for Refined Bleached Shellac:

The best solvents for shellac are ethanol and its homologs. Shellac is also soluble in ketones and lower fatty acids such as formic acid, acetic acid, and aromatic amines, but insoluble in benzene, acetone, and similar solvents. However, it can dissolve in mixed solvents containing a small proportion of water; for example, adding 5–10% water to acetone makes it a good solvent for shellac.

To obtain a low-viscosity shellac solution, a dual-solvent method can be used, which produces a viscosity about half that of an ethanol-only solution. Examples include:

  • Methanol + Propanol (75:25)

  • Ethanol + Ethyl Acetate (60:40)
